Noah Kahan - The Great Divide

The Great Divide is a masterclass in folk-pop evolution, trading the manic energy of Stick Season for a more expansive, cinematic soundscape characterized by atmospheric production. While it may never achieve the same level of popularity as Stick Season, this album is a mature step forward for Noah Kahan. He dives deeper into the complexities of “post-breakout" life, delivering heartfelt lyrics about the distance between his humble Vermont roots and his current superstar reality. He proves he hasn't lost his knack for a devastatingly catchy hook, making this album both a comforting return and a bold step forward.

One track I thought really stood out was “Paid Time Off”. Most of his music, both on this album and historically, leans into a slightly poppy vibe, which don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoy. This track has it’s pop elements, but his vocals take on a raw, folk feel. Accompanied by banjo picking, this has an authentic, organic sound to it which separates it from the rest of this album.
